Research Building CellNanOs

The CellNanOs Research Building at Campus Westerberg (operated since September 2017) provides a central laboratory infrastructure to foster interdisciplinary research projects within the Center for Cellular Nanoanalytics. The building is organized in three floors covering a total of 1500 sqm:

  • Ground floor: hosts the light and electron microscopy infrastructure of the Integrated Bioimaging Facility s with the entire floor approved for biological safety level S2 including comprehensive facilities for sample preparation.
  • First floor: a comprehensive molecular cell biology infrastructure available for interdisciplinary collaborations and independent junior groups, labs for chemical synthesis as well as micro- and nanofabrication, and the mass spectrometry facility.
  • Top floor: open office space, communication zones and seminar rooms designed to foster scientific exchange.

Integrated Bioimaging Facility Osnabrück (iBiOS)

The integrated Bioimaging Facility iBiOs provides access to advanced fluorescence and electron microscopy across multiple scales: From live-cell single molecule imaging to light-sheet microscopy, from single particle to 3D volume EM.

Fluorescence Microscopy:

  • State-of-the-art high-resolution scanning and spinning disk confocal imaging techniques,
  • Live cell single molecule TIRF microscopy including tracking, co-tracking and FRET in up to four spectral channels,
  • Superresolution microscopy by STORM, DNA-PAINT and expansion microscopy,
  • Advanced microspectrometry by FLIM-FRET and FCS,
  • Cutting-edge imaging techniques: lattice light-sheet, super-resolution SIM and advanced non-linear optical microscopy,
  • Combined AFM and high-end TIRF microscopy.

Electron Microscopy:

  • State-of-the-art cryo-sample preparation pipelines (high-pressure and plunge freezing, cryo-microtomy) for single-particle and volume EM,
  • 100 kV and 200 kV TEMs dedicated for cellular EM of classical- and cryo-fixed samples,
  • Serial block-face SEM for volumetric EM of cells, tissues and organisms,
  • 200 kV cryo-TEM for high-resolution single-particle EM (ThermoFisher Glacios).
